FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Internal Medicine Associates?

Internal Medicine Associates, or IMA, is a group of physicians who specialize in the prevention and medical treatment, as opposed to surgical treatment, of diseases which primarily afflict adults. The IMA team also includes a physician's assistant and a dietitian.

Is IMA affiliated with a medical group?

IMA is part of the Heartland Healthcare Network, an alliance of healthcare professionals who have been taking care of people in eastern North Dakota and western Minnesota for more than 30 years. Heartland is a patient-centered regional healthcare network of independent healthcare providers.

Do I need a referral to see an IMA provider?

Because Heartland gives you and your doctor freedom of choice in making healthcare decisions, you can see any doctor in the network without being required to get a referral from a "primary care" physician.

Will my insurance cover services provided by IMA?

IMA providers offer their services to members of a number of employer groups, health plans and managed care organizations both on a local and national level. If you have questions or concerns about your specific insurance, call IMA at 280-2033.
